Pamela Smyth, Hair & Makeup Designer on all three series of The Fall, takes us through the skincare and makeup for Gillian Anderson’s role as Stella Gibson.
“I constantly get requests about Gillian’s makeup for The Fall so here’s the breakdown. Gillian has amazing skin so I used a mix of Clarins and Dermalogica skincare to prep.
As a facialist as well as a makeup artist – the condition of the skin is of utmost importance to me but I kept it simple. We used the Clarins 1 step gentle exfoliating cleanser – really quick and easy to use in the shower, Dermalogica Total Eye Care SPF15 and Intensive Moisture Balance moisturizer followed by Chanel UV Essentiel SPF50 for her daily SPF.
The makeup look was classic, professional – with a little bit of sex on the side. It’s important to me that skin looks like skin and as Gillian had little to conceal I used Chanel Vitalumiere foundation and La Prairie under eye concealer. Chanel Soliel Bronzer to warm the skin up when needed and my favourite cream blush – Calypso Coral by Bobbi Brown on the cheeks. On the eyes I switched between two Dior palettes – the 5 Couleurs Taupe, and 3 Couleurs Khaki depending on the lighting and the scene. Brows were shaped with Mac Concrete eyeshadow applied with a wet angled brow brush and lashes were defined and lengthened with Lancôme Definicils black mascara.”
