We begin a series of Student Successes with two of our very first students. Both have had parallel careers starting off doing an intensive series of make up courses at The Make up Dept and going on to work in the crowd room together on Game of Thrones.
Eimer’s career has been precisely focused on the TV & Film industry with steep career progression from make up trainee to working as Key Make up Artist. Leigh has blended her TV & Film work with a highly successful business as a bridal and occasion make up artist and blogger.
With a former career in PR & Advertising, and Sustaintainable Development Eimer began training in make up in 2008 aged 38.
After completing Oonagh Boman’s make up diploma in 08-09 Eimer went on to train in TV& Film make up and hair techniques at The Make up Dept. An intensive series of one-week courses from Jan-March 2011 from Special Effects, Get Set Ready, 5 day wigs and Fashion & Photographic with tutor Tina Earnshaw gave Eimer all the skills and knowledge she needed to start working as a make up trainee and her Make up career kicked off on Season 1 of Game of Thrones.
Over the next few years Eimer worked on a plethora of TV commercials including award-winning DOE road safety ad campaigns and TV dramas including Line of Duty and all 3 series of The Fall.
She also worked on principle cast on the film Maze and The Harley Davidson Story for the Discovery Channel.
Eimer continued her training at The Make up Dept with Masterclasses in Prosthetics and Laying on facial hair. Most recently completing the Period Hair course with Natalie Porter.
With a career progression from makeup trainee to working principle cast, on all 8 seasons of Game of Thrones; Key Make up Artist on The Fall 3 with Jamie Dornan and Gillian Anderson and Key Hair & Make up The Frankenstein Chronicles 2 her training at The Make up Dept. gave her the grounding for her own creativity and skills to shine.
Leigh began her career in beauty in 2009 by training in Beauty Therapy to level 3 while working in the highly respected Serene Skincare beauty salon in Killyleagh using Dermalogica and Thalgo skincare, and Jane Iredale make up.
In 2011 Leigh attended The Make up Dept and did three of our one-week intensive courses back to back. Foundation, Special Effects and Get Set Ready.
Aged 19, Leigh began working as a make up daily on the TV Series Undisclosed in May 2011 followed by Game of Thrones Season 2.
The talented make up artist worked on Game of Thrones seasons 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 traveling to Croatia and Spain, only missing season 5 due to a working holiday in Australia.
Other make up credits have included fashion photoshoots, short films and TV dramas including The Fall.
Leigh has specialised in Bridal and occasion make up since her training in 2011 and launched her successful fashion and beauty blog @LifeofLeigh in August 2016. Her training at The Make up Dept has been the foundation of both strands of her make up work resulting in a busy and rewarding career.
