The excitement is building for The Make up Dept.’s second series of courses for 2017,
We kick off 5 weeks of professional courses with the Foundation course on 4th-8th September, were students will learn Pamela Smyth’s – flawless perfect signature style and be able to take on an face and create a gorgeous look with total confidence and their own artistic flair.
“Every face is different and we teach a method that throws the old stereotypes out the window and instills a level of knowledge and art so that the student can literally do any style of make up on any face. Seeing the light bulbs go off and their confidence growing – it’s just brilliant!” says The Make up Dept’s Pamela Smyth.
The Emmy-winning make up artist’s signature style of ‘flawless perfection’ was crafted and perfected while working on fashion shoots before the birth of digital photography and retouching. Make up had to be perfect, first time and every time.
Back then TV make up was all about quantity and not quality so when HD arrived Pamela’s make up skills made her stand out and her career has been on the rise ever since.
Pamela recently did Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams’ make-ups for the cover of Entertainment Weekly. “This is, in effect, a ‘natural’ make up look but when doing a ‘no make up’ makeup – as the girls characters require – you need to understand how far you can take the look because it is for a magazine cover – that needs to be pixel perfect.”
Get The Look:
“Both Sophie and Maisie have great skin that they have looked after since season 1 so base was minimal with Chanel Vitalumiere liquid foundation and La Prairie under eye concealer. My favourite Chanel Universal bronzer to add warmth and shape, and the lightest flush of blush Bobbi Brown Pot Rouge on the cheeks.
Maisie’s brows are incredible so just a little grooming and definition with a cool-toned dark brown eye shadow on an angled brush. A neutral base on the lids and separated lashes to balance the brows.
You always need to be careful with brows on a red head. Although Sophie is naturally blonde – her red hair for the show needs to work in with her brows. Again, a cool-toned brown matte eye shadow is all that you need to frame the shape. A little Eye Bright gel by DHC to prep the eye area. Neutral tones on the eye with hint of pearl on the lid and lots of well separated lashes with DHC Mascara Perfect Pro – always in Black.
For lips Burt’s Bee’s tinted lip balm in Hibiscus is a sheer lip product close to the lip colour with just enough gloss for a flattering effect on the lips.
