sfx special effects makeup course collage

On the SFX course you will learn how to create a variety of Special Effects using old and new techniques. Looking at how this make up art has developed over the decades, and the forensic investigation to produce authentic special effects, makes this a fascinating course.

Amongst the vast array of skills needed to work on a TV or Film set Special Effects is an absolute essential.

If you love a bit of blood and gore, wounds, disease and death you’re going to love this course. SFX make up has a core grounding in forensic investigation so you reproduce authentic special effects, that the camera and the viewer will completely believe are real. It can be subtle – it can be horrific – but we know it’s just make up! So much fun!

This course also covers ageing which is a very tricky special effect to master so it looks convincingly real. You will also run moulds, make and apply pieces gelatine and probondo pieces and paint them so they are seemless and stunningly real.

During this week you will use the schools cosmetics which are all the products used on set on shows like Game of Thrones, The Fall and Taboo and films like Mad Max Fury Road and The Revenant.

As our tutors are all booked to work on major film and TV productions for the rest of the year we take this opportunity to train up make-up artists who wish to add TV & Film work to their CV.  Demand for these skills are high so don’t miss this opportunity to learn from the elite working in TV & Film at the height of their careers. The cumulative effect of the knowledge of our tutors is simply mind blowing. Sign up now.
