An intensive and thorough introduction to what is required for period hairstyling for TV & Film. This course includes demonstrations of essential skills and techniques required by a hairstylist working in industry. Each day you will have an opportunity to have hands-on practice with guidance by Natalie to put your taught skills into action so you are confident at creating the styles that have been demonstrated – from start to finish. These are the essential skills needed for day-to-day work – no gimmicks required.
Wet set – different techniques demonstrated and practiced for specific periods.
Directional setting according to period style.
Research advice on setting up for a project or booking.
Dressing out, styling and re-styling – managing hair throughout the day on set.
Using electricals and heat to achieve different looks and movement.
Back to old school, use of dowling, padding, switches, pieces and tricks of industry to get things right.
A quick 30 minute do when up against the clock.

Wig removal and maintenance.
This course in an amazing opportunity to be taught by and to work closely with Natalie Reid, current in demand hair and makeup designer working and employing in Northern Ireland. Natalie’s experience with period hair began with a 4 year run styling wigs on Phantom of the Opera in London’s West End and on a UK wide tour including the lead character Christine Daae. Natalie’s IMDB includes Agatha Christie: Poirot, Agatha Christie’s Marple, Cranford, Anna Karenna, The Invisible Woman and of course the elaborate period styles of the ladies in Kings Landing for Game of Thrones. Most recently Natalie was the hair and makeup designer on Mother’s Day, Come Home and Death and Nightingales – all filmed in Northern Ireland.
