Aisling Nairn’s first feature film saw her thrown in at the deep end working on a big budget Hollywood blockbuster Saving Private Ryan, directed by Steven Spielberg, working on background actors for duration of shoot in Ireland. The film was nominated for an Oscar for make up in 1998.
Feature films and TV series followed with films like The Count of Monte Cristo, Reign of Fire, Veronica Guerin, Ella Enchanted and King Arthur.
Aisling’s biggest challenge to date was a 8-month shoot on location in Mexico on Apocalyto with director Mel Gibson. Working with cast and main character ‘Middle Eye’ the 2nd lead in the epic film, which was nominated for an Oscar for make up in 2007.
Aisling worked as 1st Assistant on The Tudor’s series 2 & 3 followed by The Invisibles with make up designer Pamela Smyth in 2007, and in 2008 she worked on the fantasy drama Ondine working with Colin Farrell.
In 2009 Aisling worked under Prosthetic Make up designer Conor O’Sullivan in his department fabricating and painting prosthetic make up pieces on Clash of the Titans. It was back to Northern Ireland for Aisling to work with Tina Earnshaw and Pamela Smyth on medieval fantasy movie Your Highness.
Aisling has also worked on period feature film Belami and Disney/Pixar’s John Carter of Mars.
